I ordered a SECOND MSI R9 270! I paid $110 for it and for a total of around $250 I have a sick crossfire set up that is more powerful than a R9 290X! NEAT!

Now you don’t have to use the heater during the winter months! Nice and toasty.

Just kidding... kinda. I have a Sapphire R9 290. I’ve seen all the jokes and pictures. But I haven’t had any problems.

Enjoy your new card.

lol the 290 is a space heater! The hottest i’ve ever had my 270 run is 160 degrees fahrenheit... i’m also upping airflow to the cards

I’ve never monitored temps on my 290. I probably should. If only for science.

I’ll check it out. Is it an overlay or just runs in the background and keeps a history? I can’t have overlays messing up my vidya.

I’m upgrading from a Radeon HD 5850... any suggestions? Just a few parameters:

1- My motherboard can’t take 2 cards. Neither the PSU. But it has all the extra power sockets to handle anything inside 800W.

2- I won’t be going beyond 1920 x 1200 until I buy another monitor.

3- I want to play GTA V maxed out at that resolution.

4- I’m not upgrading anything else. Yet.

5- My home is already an oven without any huge card. 90ºF is not unheard here.

6- I don’t give a rat’s ass about the noise.

Since I’d assume you’re on a budget, get a used AMD HD7950/7970. They usually run around $100 to $140 in good shape... if you want to play on the green team (nVidia) get a used GTX 770/680.

I was aiming for a gtx 980, but the machine couldnt possibly keep up. Seriously considering gtx 770.

By the way, specs are: Core i7 920 (1st gen) sitting on top of an asus deluxe v2, 12gb ddr3, 2x 1 Tb hdd... and one tiny 60gb Ssd just for wow...

And yes, I am thinking the rest of the machine is holding my current card back.

What’s holding your card back is the I7 920... get like a 2600k or up with a z77 board and you will be good for another couple of years. I’d personally recommend you take some money out of your GPU budget and get an i5 4690k and a Z97 board of your choice... If you really want to kill EVERYTHING (including your wallet) get a 5930k with an X99 board and 32gb ddr4 and 100% SSD storage with SLI GTX 980ti s

Yeah, I was going for ditching the i7 920, and everything that goes with it. I was going for an i7 (working on the submodel) 32GB DDR-something, keep the 2TB storage, use the SSD to boot, and get just one GTX980 standard. The boring part is to install everything back... steam... wow...

And, on my country, the HD7950 is a tad cheaper than the GTX 770... except they are both out of stock.
